My Roadmap for the Claude Certified Architect Foundations Exam

A practical roadmap for preparing for the Claude Certified Architect Foundations certification.

I put this roadmap together while preparing for the Claude Certified Architect Foundations certification. If you are thinking about taking the exam too, I hope this saves you some time and some confusion.

Important

Your company needs to be part of the Claude Partner Network to access the learning path and certification process.

Phase 1: Build the fundamentals

I started with Anthropic’s official Claude Partner Network learning path and followed the courses in the order below:

Introduction to Agent Skills
Learn how to build, configure, and share Skills in Claude Code.
Building with the Claude API
Focus on Claude models, prompting, API integration, and application development.
Introduction to Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Understand MCP servers and clients, plus tools, resources, and prompts.
Claude Code in Action
See how Claude Code works in real development workflows, including troubleshooting.

Phase 2: Practice and fill the gaps

Once the basics made sense, I spent time on the parts that actually matter in the exam: agentic architecture, MCP, tool design, and context management.

Phase 3: Benchmark yourself

Before booking the certification, take the official mock exam.

The passing score for the certification is 720/1000. Personally, I would aim for 900+ on the mock before sitting the real thing. That gives you a safer buffer and makes it easier to see where you still need work.

Phase 4: Take the certification

A few practical things to keep in mind before exam day:

You will need a credit or debit card that supports international transactions.
Save your work before starting, because the system may require a restart.
Turn off system notifications.
Make sure your internet connection is stable for the full exam.
